YOUR MEDICALLY SAFE NAIL SPA

What is a Medically Safe Nail Spa? Is it right for my practice? Why is it a good business model?

These are all great questions and I'd like to tell you my story of how I developed this, the things I learned along the way, and why I think this type of business is an AMAZING option for physicians!

Benefit 1

Members of Your Community

Non-Patient Community Members have a safer option for their nail care. One they can trust has the same cleanliness standards as a doctor's office. Even those who are not patients in your office can fill up your spa schedule.

Benefit 2

High Risk Patients

Not all patients qualify for high risk foot care from a physician but still need a safer option for their foot care (and one that pampers them as well is a bonus!)

Benefit 3

Passive Income

Your practice can essentially "share space" with this type of business and the business is able to operate without you physically being there. Most doctors know that if you aren't in office, you aren't earning an income. This solves that problem and gives you your time back!

HOW I GOT HERE

During residency, I thought the idea of having a nail spa in a podiatrist's office was a great idea. This was discouraged however by my elders because it had "nothing to do with a medical practice".
After years of thinking on it, I finally decided that this WAS a needed service for many of my patients and my community members deserved a safer option for manicures and pedicures than what was currently available.

Three years ago, when I opened my new office space I made the plan for the Spa. During the course of planning I learned a TON about how different the aesthetics industry was from medical and how to have this be a business that brought in income without me being in the office. There were trials and triumphs and all the learning was from the ground up.

It took our spa 3 months to become profitable (covering its own expenses with money left over) and about 9 months to fully pay me back for my initial investment. Currently, 3 years in, the spa is fully booked out 6 weeks and brings in a substantial amount every month.

People in the community trust our spa because they know we have the same cleanliness standards as a doctor's office.

Its a win-win for everyone and since I've had a lot of physicians interested in how to set something like this up for themselves, I finally put together a course!

What is a Nail Spa and is it a good fit for my practice?

A Medically Safe Nail Spa is the same as any Manicure/Pedicure Salon but with HIGH standards for cleanliness and generally contain therapeutic elements to the service such as circulation enhancing massage, gentle callus care, use of CBD creams for neuropathy, etc. This type of business fits well in the setting of a doctor's office since the general public already associates a doctor's office with high cleanliness standards and treatment options.

Since this is a separate business entirely, think about this as a way to rent out some of your office space (to yourself). So it really doesn't matter what type of medical practice you have. If there is a need in your community for a safe option for manicures and pedicures, this is a viable and profitable option.

Can I even fit another business into my office space?

The beauty of a Nail Spa is that your space requirement is very flexible. You can convert just one exam room or build out a larger room like we did. You can purchase large massage chairs with built in plumbing or you can utilize your current exam chairs with a basin and cart of supplies.

There are a LOT of options with this and the business can grow and change as you need it to and are ready for.

How would I get started and how expensive is the set up?

The getting started is really just about making the decision to do so. The rest is just permitting, staffing and supplies. All of which this course will walk you through.

And the expense for start up is variable with your set up. I've done a larger set up with larger up front cost, but I've had people do minimal start up with existing staff and upgrading as they grew  the business. There is no "right" way to do this and the course is designed the assist you however you decide is best for you.

How much EXTRA INCOME could my Nail Spa make?

This type of business has very low overhead and thus a high profit margin. At its smallest scale with only one technician and a full schedule of 6-7 services per day, a spa can profit 60-75k per year!
